It seems like throwing on a record and drifting away is a lost art. It's no fault of the listener, there just aren't that many great albums being produced anymore. There are good albums with some some great songs, and great albums with all, or nearly all, great songs but they're rare these days. You know, the kind where you drop the needle and drift happily away for 20 + minutes. I've left out many "super groups" because we all know about Beatles, Stones, Led Zep, Who, Moody Blues, Chicago, Yes etc. So here's a list of other great albums or at least good albums that have stood the test of time (for me) along with some insight.

Average White Band - Person to Person (vintage, Atlantic)
A double live album that makes all their studio albums unlistenable. Pop/blues

Eric Burdon and the Animals - Best of (vintage, Polygram)
More rock than blues, just a great compilation

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath and Paranoid (current re-releases)
Probably the best metal music for non metal heads

Blood, Sweat and Tears - Best of - (Friday Music)
Good old Pop/blues from a way talented group

Alice Cooper Show - (Friday Music)
Live light rock with good sonics

Phil Collins - Hello I must be Going and But Seriously (vintage, Virgin)
Pop/rock. Really Great songs interspersed with trash. Oh, well.

Donovans greatest - (re-release)
Hippie rock, moody

Guess Who - American Woman (Friday Music)
Rock/ pop

Heart - Dog and Butterfly - (vintage, Portrait/CBS)
rock. Butterfly side flows well

Jeff Healy Band, Live in Switzerland - (Music on Vinyl)
Bluesy rock.

INXS Greatest - (1994, Polygram? Mercury?)
High energy, low abrasion rock/pop

Kraftwerk - Autobahn (1985 re-release, Warner Brothers)
Low key electronic, buzz required

Massive Attack - Mezzanine (vintage 90's)
Low key electronic. Lot's of bass. If you like Portishead this will blow your mind.

Portishead - Roseland nyc live, current production
The definitive Portishead album.

Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Tarkus, vintage
Way talented keyboard, synth

Quicksilver Messenger Service - Happy Trails
Rock/blues - best rendition of "Who do you Love?" ever (whole side)

Savoy Brown - Looking In (vintage, Parrot)
Rock/Blues - another great

Spirit - Choose your favorite album

10 Years After - A Space in time (Audio Fidelity)
Moody rock. This one was over played but it's been awhile so thumbs up

Traffic- Last exit (Friday Music)
Better than my original copy. Go directly to side 2 - buzz required

U2 - Joshua Tree (vintage, Island/Atco)
U2 in their prime

Neil Young - Everybody Knows This is Nowhere (vintage, Reprise)
Bluesy rock when Neil could sing, Crazyhorse band

Crosby Stills and Nash - CS+N, Deja vu
Can be dreamy stuff in, a good way. (current reissue/vintage, Atlantic)

The Kinks - The Live Kinks
A heyday live album with band/crowd synergy. (vintage, Reprise)

Vaughn Brothers - Family Style
Not too serious Rock/Blues with plenty of fun and drive (vintage, Epic)

Honorable Mention:

It's a Beautiful Day - It's a Beautiful Day (thanks 10ovr)
Men at Work - Men at Work
The Verve - Urban Hymns
Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring
Radiohead - OK Computer, In Rainbows
Blasters - Live 1986
System of a Down - Toxicity

Soundtracks:
Kill Bill
American Hustle
Ennio Morricone Collected
Napoleon Dynamite
Pulp Fiction
From Dusk till Dawn

Please add your favorites. I'm running out of old music to buy!

Billo, Spirit and Its a Beautiful Day are sometimes overlooked, but they're two of my favorites. I don't have a high-quality pressing of any Spirit album. Do you know of one, especially Fresh Garbage. Rich

Hate to hint at my age, but I partied with Spirit in the 60's.
